Starting up (again)

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

I’ve worked on two start-ups so far.

Whether or not one could define them as success or failures is subjective. The first one, CREATIV, was a charitable start-up that successfully organised a fashion show, collated and published a book, and raised in excess of £3000 which was donated across two charities in Nigeria. It’s no longer operational.

The second one, Afro Genie (nee Qrown It) successfully won the City Sparks 2015 competition in March, and at the final pitching event of the FFWD London pre-accelerator programme delivered arguably the best pitch of the cohort. We haven’t raised any seed funding or had many successful transactions.

However if I’ve learnt nothing from my experience this summer with FFWD, Qrown It/Afro Genie, The Hangout and Nadia Finer…it’s that start ups can be fun. Especially lean start ups. They force you to be creative when solving solve problems. They very quickly reveal what can be feasible ideas.

So it’s time to start-up again…[watch this space]
